So well said. I found that in my classroom with my students listening often turned into seeking to understand. It is so important to take the time and energy to totally focus on someone's story so that you are not only listening but understanding too!

Indeed, it "is"in listening that we adsorb and process what is being said. What a blessing to realize the importance so early. A very important lesson to share in your blog as well as the article by Andrew Forsthoefel. As a storyteller, one must capture the audience's attention i.e. get them to listen from beginning to end.

Wonderful perspective. So many times as i have been telling, I have found that listening and awareness of those who are listening and responding has shifted the telling of my stories. AND I love listening to your stories!

I worked in a call center for many years, selling travel. We had training after training on listening skills. I wish I had started taking story telling classes before my job. Storytelling teaches the importance of listening in a gentle but impactive way.
